According to the latest report from IHS, despite the slow growth of the entire smart phone market, the global smart phone demand for LTPS TFT LCD screens is increasing. Thanks to the hot sales of iPhone 6/iPhone 6 Plus and Apple's demand for high-resolution widescreens, the market demand for LTPS TFT LCD screens has increased significantly.
According to IHS data, due to the high demand for LTPS TFT LCD screens for Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the shipment of LTPS TFT LCD screens increased by 31 percent in the first half of 2015, reaching 251 million units. Among them, the screen of Apple's iPhone occupies 52 percent . LTPS TFT LCD is mainly used in Apple's iPhone and other high-end smartphones that use FHD (1920 x 1080) and WQHD (2560 x 1440) high-resolution screens.
The report also emphasized that screen manufacturers are now investing in production lines to expand the production line's mass production capacity, not only for LTPS TFT LCD screens, but also for AMOLED screens. Due to the rapid growth of iPhone's LTPS TFT LCD screens, Apple's competitors are also increasing orders for high-resolution screens to make high-end smartphones to compete with Apple.
